Local 1205 opens on Abbot Kinney

Westsiders know if they want gourmet Italian on the fly, there's a Godmother on Lincoln who's happy to help (except on Mondays).

Now Venice offers an equally appealing taste of Paris.

Local 1205 opens at 7a and you'll know it by the giant clock inside, banging the same tune it did when it kept schedule at a 1940's Paris train station.

Speaking of stations, start with the caffeination one in the front: as-you-like-it coffee (brewed locally by Handsome), or opt for a cold pressed juice or fresh fruit smoothie.

Counter service includes hand-carved meats. The shop is still waiting on a pizza oven, so stay tuned for Brazilian-style pizzas.

There's also a strong New York influence: Katz's Deli salami, Russ and Daughters smoked fish, pickles, and egg sandwiches straight out of the Lower East Side.

While you wait, browse the antiqued aisles of olive oils, vinegars, caviar, and other world delicacies, or just read the newspaper at one of many charming bistro tables.

Eventually open till 3a (4a on weekends), 1205 is also poised for a big after-hours following.

Prepare for a First Friday first: binging on caviar.
