The internet turns 42 tomorrow and you can celebrate at the birthplace of the internet at UCLA, where the Kleinrock Internet Heritage Site will be holding its grand opening party. Professor Leonard Kleinrock and his grad student Charlie Kline sent the first ARPANET message ("lo") from the site in Boelter Hall back on October 29, 1969. Several internet pioneers (including Kleinrock and Kline) will be at the party tomorrow, giving short talks on "what it was like to live and work on the early, early Internet -- perhaps even a discussion of the first illegal act committed online by the man himself." Ooh, wonder what that is. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best sixties wear. We'll have a full tour of the site next week.
